Robert C Byrd Scholarship: You must
have an ACT of 32 or above to be considered for this scholarship
and a GPA of 3.85 or higher. This scholarship has a specific format
available in my office. This is a four year scholarship, the amount
awarded each year is approximately $1500, but subject to federal
reduction of funds. Generally, there are about 65 or more awards in
the state of Kansas. You can also download the application at

Imagine American Scholarship: This program is sponsored by the Imagine America Foundation. Each high school can award three $1,000 scholarships to a student who plans to enroll in a participating career college. You need a high school GPA of 2.5 or better, financial need, and you must have demonstrated community service your senior year. High school graduates of 2008 can start to apply on January 1, 2008. It is first come first serve. There are over 500 career colleges that participate across the U.S. Find out more and apply online at

Kansas Ethnic Minority Scholarship: Meet one of the following criteria: 1) ACT of 21 or SAT of 990; 2) GPA of 3.0; 3) Rank in top 1/3 of class; 4) Complete Kansas Scholars Curriculum; 5) selected by National Merit Corporation or as an Hispanic Scholar. Award is up to $1850 per year. Deadline May 1st.
Kansas Nursing Service Scholarship: You are obligated to practice as an LPN or RN in Kansas and work for your sponsor one year for each year of support. You must be accepted to a Kansas Nursing Program and have a commitment from a sponsor. LPN’s are eligible for $2,500 and RN’s are eligible for $3,500 per year. Deadline to apply is May 1st.
Kansas Teachers Service Scholarship: This scholarship requires a commitment to teach in a specified curriculum or in an underserved area of the state of Kansas. In 2007 the specified curriculums were special education, math, science and music. Underserved areas were Louisburg, Newton, Kansas City, Kansas, and Wichita. You are obligated to teach one year for each year of scholarship. You must complete the Kansas Scholars Curriculum, and submit your ACT, GPA, and rank in class. Scholarships are for $5000 for each academic year.
Ayn Rand The Fountainhead: This is an
essay contest with awards ranging from $50 to $10,000. There are a
total of over 230 scholarships. You choose one of three topics
relating to the book “The Fountainhead”. The essay must be between
800 and 1600 words. You may submit your essay online at
www.aynrand.org/contests. You
can also mail in your application. There are more specific
guidelines at the website.
Holocaust Remembrance Project: Essay
Contest: Scholarship up to $10,000 for high school students,
intended to encourage and promote the study of the Holocaust. The
essay should (a) analyze why it is so vital that the remembrance,
history and lessons of the Holocaust be passed to a new generation;
and (b) suggest what they, as students, can do to combat and
prevent prejudice, discrimination and violence in our world today.
The essay should not exceed 1200 words. The web site is

Essay must be submitted online. Deadline for submission is April
30th.
Federal Employee Education And Assistance Fund: This program has scholarships and loans available for civilian federal and postal employees and their family members. Send self-addressed stamped envelope to FEEA, Suite 200, 8441 W. Bowles, Littleton, Colo. 80123-3245. Scholarships are from $300 - $1,200. Requirements are a minimum of three years of employment with federal service for the parent (or student) and a 3.0 GPA for the student, a recommendation, community service and an essay. The loan qualifications do not include the above restrictions.
