TOM PIERCE TRAVELING AWARD
Recognizing staff members who make a difference
The Tom Pierce Traveling Award recognizes staff members who make a difference. The inaugural award was given to Tom Pierce, Athletic Director and Assistant Principal, to recognize his personal efforts to raise money for a family in the district who was struggling to cope with the mother’s cancer. He collected donations from the students that were matched by parents, who then shaved his head into a Mohawk to the delight of students and staff at the last Middle School Football Game!
Tom then passed the award to Jane Vangemeren, Middle School English teacher, to recognize her efforts to help students with reading during her plan time, seminar, and after school. Jane passed the award to Dee Gill, MS Secretary, for making cookies to give to students who earn their AR points. This award was recently given to Mr. Wes Patterson, Maintenance Director for all the work he does around the schools.
It is up to the person who receives the award to pass it on to another deserving staff member. In order to ensure that the award is passed throughout the building, suggestions for potential award winners can be given to the principals or to the person who is the current recipient.
Rick & Nancy Renfro have donated 15, $20 gift cards to Johnny’s, an upscale Lawrence restaurant, for those who receive the award. We appreciate this generous donation and hope that the award winners will be able to enjoy this gift.
