Students at McLouth USD #342 have kicked off the 2010 Pennies for Patients Campaign benefiting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
From February 1 through February 22, students will bring their spare pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters to school and contribute them to their classroom's collection container. Their spare change will add up to save the lives of people touched by blood cancers.
In 2009, $19 million was raised by schools throughout the country which participated in School & Youth Programs like Pennies for Patients. Funds raised at these schools support LLS's mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Thanks to the fantastic efforts from last year, 285 Kansas schools raised over $185,000. This year the goal is to raise $200,000 and McLouth is helping the Kansas Chapter reach that goal.
The goal we've set for our school is to raise $800.
This is a district wide effort with donation containers located in each elementary classroom and in the middle and high school offices. The highest fundraising grade in the elementary school will receive a pizza party compliments of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The top 2 fundraising schools and the top 2 schools for the highest amount raised per student will be presented with prizes by the Kansas Chapter staff.
Please help support this worthy cause and send your loose change to school with your student. Or feel free to stop by and make a donation in one of the school offices.
