The McLouth Bulldogs defeated Atchison County High School Tigers 73-27 in their opening round substate win Monday.  With the win the Bulldogs will advance to the sub-state semifinals where they will face the Oskaloosa Bears at 6:00 PM, Thursday February 28, at Valley Heights High School near Blue Rapids, Kansas.  The Bulldogs jumped on the Tigers early taking a commanding 21-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back. The Bulldogs were led in scoring by Asher Robbins with 15 points and Garrison Pope with 28 points.

Garrison’s 28th point came at the freethrow line where he also scored his 1000th point for his varsity career.  When Garrison scored his 1000th point, the Bulldogs called timeout and presented Garrison with a commemorative basketball and certificate of accomplishment.  Head Coach Steve Lilly said, “this is a testament to the work and time commitment Garrison has put into the game. He has not missed a game or workout over the last three years and his dedication has certainly paid off.  This is also an honor for Garrison’s teammates who have played unselfish and have created scoring opportunities for Garrison. Garrison’s teammates were just as excited as Garrison for this accomplishment. I think that speaks volumes as to where we are as a team and the culture these guys have established.”

With the win the Bulldogs improve to 16-5 on the season.
