COURSE TITLE: Food, Fun and Fitness

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Students will learn the importance of total fitness, physical, social & emotional. Wellness and nutrition is the emphasis in this course.
In the area of fitness, lifetime sports will be covered including indoor and outdoor sports such as team sports and individual sports. Some areas of interest include walking, volleyball, badminton, aerobics (including step aerobics), jumping rope, and golf. Integration with the primary grades physical education program is included.
Throughout the course, food selection in all areas of nutrition will be covered with demonstrations and cooking labs. Areas of food to be covered include: cooking for your heart, low-fat recipes, foods and recipes for health conditions including high cholesterol, diabetes, lactose intolerant. Food preservation by canning and drying, and the making of jellies and jams will be studied. American heritage and the foods of each region will be covered and some of the foods prepared. Students will have a good understanding of food preparation, nutrition, and the importance of lifetime fitness.
