COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This is an upper level class for students who will soon be graduating from high school and emphasis is on career and life planning. The student will learn adult roles and living skills needed to succeed such as: decision-making, career development, obtaining and keeping a job/career, managing finances-budgeting, obtaining a place to live and understanding a lease agreement, becoming a wise consumer, use of credit and insurance information. Students will study careers and use the Choices computer software and use Internet career assessment tests to research areas of interest. Students will develop a career portfolio that will include a resume, cover letter, and letter of application and a follow-up letter. Students research their career choice by interviewing a person in that chosen career. Students then participate in a “mock interview where they practice and demonstrate job-seeking skills.
In the foods unit students will study nutrition and be able to plan and prepare basic economical dishes on a budget.
