I got a bit of a late start in teaching compared to most. I was 31 when I started teaching at a middle school in Topeka. The main reason for the late start was because I wasn't sure what I wanted to do in life. After high school, (I went to a high school in Geneseo, IL), I went to UMKC, (the University of Missouri-Kansas City), and received a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies, but if I'm honest, my main focus wasn't school, it was running cross-country and track! Following UMKC I went to KU to pursue a Master's in Broadcast Journalism which I received in 2005. However, right after graduation, I wasn't sure I wanted to pursue that career after all and instead became a para in the Lawrence school district. After working with teens for 5 years in that setting I decided I wanted to be a teacher so I went to my third and final post-secondary school, Washburn. After getting my ed. degree and teaching license, I taught 6th and 7th grade Language Arts at French Middle School in Topeka. After 6 years there I came to McLouth in 2018. As far as my life outside of school, I am married and have a sweet girl who was born in 2020. Although we live in Meriden, home of the Jeff West Tigers where my husband works, I make sure to wear my McLouth Bulldog purple and gold around town and especially to Jeff West home football games! Ha! Although we live in Meriden, we aren't often there as we travel weekly to Topeka for groceries and such, as well as Kansas City for church and Lawrence to visit grandma. In my free time I enjoy going outside with Cynthia, watching Friends and Castle, and cleaning my house!
