Covid-19 Positive Procedure

McLouth USD #342 uses the following procedures in conjunction with the Jefferson County Health Department and KDHE when there is a confirmed positive COVID case in the district.

  1. The district contacts the Jefferson County Health Department and begins contact tracing.

  2. We immediately go through class seating charts and the positive individual’s schedule.

  3. We begin determining what individuals might be considered close contacts.  The Kansas Department of Health and Environment defines close contacts as people who were within 6 feet of the positive individual for 10 or more consecutive minutes.  An individual could easily be in the same room of a positive case and not be considered a close contact.

  4. School personnel contact individuals who have initially been determined to be close contacts.

  5. School personnel send a message out to all families and staff notifying everyone of a positive COVID case.

  6. If it is determined that an individual is not considered a close contact, staff does not have the authority to exclude individuals from activities.

  7. The health department makes the determination if an individual needs to be quarantined and will notify individuals they are under quarantine  Quarantined individuals will receive a letter from the health department that states when they will be allowed to return to school.  This initial quarantine letter will be required to be turned into the office prior to the student or staff member being allowed to return to school.

  8. Areas that the positive person were in are fogged and deep cleaned.
