WHO participates in the Kids Heart Challenge?

All students (K-5) of McLouth Elementary will have the opportunity to raise money and earn cool "thank you" gifts!  However, even if the students do not participate in raising funds for the American Heart Association, they will still be taught heart health information, as well as participate in a grade-level "celebration" event during their regularly scheduled specials time.

WHAT is the Kids Heart Challenge?

Formerly known as Jump Rope for Heart, the American Heart Association announced details of its new Kids Heart Challenge, which could includes jump rope, basketball, dance, and other fitness-related components!  The KHC marks the Association's 40th year working in schools and meets the changing needs of today's youth and educators by preparing kids for success through physical and emotional well-being.  The KHC allows our students to be a Heart Hero by learning all about what they can do to keep their hearts healthy, take their own health challenge and learn how they can help others by collecting donations for the American Heart Association.  Funds raised will be used to support advocacy initiatives to keep physical education in schools, ensures kids have access to healthy foods and provides resources to advocate for CPR in school laws that ensure every student knows how to save a life.  Also, funding will support research in newer medication, technology, and additional heart-related trainings.

In addition to the new activities, the KHC provides enhanced give-backs, direct contributions to schools and new curriculum for teachers supporting whole-child centered learning.  As in previous years, certificates to purchase physical education or recess equipment from an expanded US Games catalog are available.  Participating schools are also eligible to apply for the new grant program, furthering the impact teachers can have with their students.

WHERE is the KHC Event?

The grade-level "celebration" event will take place in the Purple Gym during their classes regularly schedule specials time.

WHEN is the KHC Event?

Since KHC really focuses on Heart Health, we typically hold the "celebration" event on or very close to Valentine's Day!

This year, our KCH Event will take place on:  Friday, February 14, 2020

HOW to Fundraise for the American Heart Association?

This year, McLouth Elementary is only going to fundraise online!  If your child wishes to raise money for the American Heart Association, they will need to register for an account online via a computer, tablet, or even a smart phone.  To sign up, just simply copy and paste the following link in the address bar to access our KHC School Page:  http://www2.heart.org/goto/mclouth

For additional assistance in getting set up, please view the attached files below to get started!

Are you worried about online fundraising???  Just remember these 3 things:

1.  It's Easy - Just a few clicks, students can join their school's online team, which has already been set up by the American Heart Association.  Just search for McLouth Elementary School!

2.  It's Safe - Our website is secure!  Student and donor information is protected.  Because it's done online, there's no cash or checks to collect/handle.  Students can print a report of funds they raised and donors are automatically emailed a receipt!

3.  It's Fun - Students can take the challenge, earn badges, watch videos and share the message with friends and family.  Oh, and collecting those Heart Heroes is a blast!
